Wreckage is the disintegration of the structural or mechanical beneath the forces of either human will or natural accident. Some externality has caused a violent rupture in the fabric of the normal, but it will never be clear precisely what. Wreckage is a reminder of the temporary. Not yet marked by time, it is the pure — and recent — malfunctioning of the built world, now askew, smashed, warped, and broken. It is now ready for an official clean-up crew, or to be transported to a laboratory for further analysis. Matter has here recognized its own reality.
