The Unfinished Obelisk is a cipher for the realm of the organic and impermanent, where there are no monuments. Its jagged shapes of skewed rebar rebuke the clean lines and surface gloss of its fellow Suitcase forms, clearly a victim of some unexplainable externality: perhaps a workers' mutiny, or management's ineptitude, the economy's collapse, or even just an abruptly changed mind. Unfinished Obelisk subsumes them all, gesturing at the incomplete, the half-ruined, the accidental. This liminal status anchors it in the realm of the material, the real. It makes a mockery of time's decay by including that very decay within itself.
